If I had a ton of disposable income this is how I would shop for everything. Makeup, fitness clothes, skin care, healthy snacks - sure there is the risk of getting something you don't like but these boxes are still like mini Christmas every month.

Klutch Club promises to deliver health and wellness products with a focus on organic, low sugar, and gluten free snacks. When a Gilt deal popped up for a "best of" box for $13 shipped I could not say no (retail price of this box is $25 and it promised over $100 in goodies). I got my box today and was really pleased!

The theme of this box was New Year's resolution and there was a nice little insert that broke down product categories and explained why it was chosen. Here is the list:

Get Supermodel Sexy
C. Booth Honey Almond Body Butter
Giovanni Cosmetics Argan Oil and Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner

Eliminate Household Toxins
Berry Plus Natural Laundry Detergent (10 loads)

Eat Right & Maintain a Healthy Weight
Funky Monkey Snacks Freeze Dried Pineapples
Jaali Bean Coconut Lentil Rice
Lush Gourmet Food Chocoloate Covered Nuts
Zevia Natural Soda with Stevia
Soyjoy Bars (chocolate cherry, cranberry)

Give Back
$10 Seer Outfitter gift card

Keep Your Body in Shape
KTape Fitness and Injury Tape
Streamfit - 2 month subscription to online fitness videos

If I was in a store I would have bought the soyjoys, funky monkey snacks, and lentil rice meal - these are right up my alley and I'm excited to try them out. The hair stuff and body cream will most definitely be put to good use. The laundry detergent should be interesting to try out (the packaging is adorable). The streamfit subscription is also an awesome fit because I do a lot of strength training at home and am always looking for new routines.

All in all this was a total score for $13. Would I still have loved it for $25? Probably, but paying half price gave me the awesome feeling you get when you score a major sale and are really happy with your loot.
I love when my box comes early, otherwise I almost always give in to the temptation of checking my box contents online. Here is what I got:

theBalm Hot Mama blush
I squealed when I saw this. I've been dying to try it and was hoping it would turn up in my box someday. Dreams come true.

No4 Clarifying Shampoo
Very nice size and something I can always use.

Embryolisse 24 hour miracle cream
I am something of a skincare junkie so I'll always welcome a sample like this. The best part about this is the full size is only $14, very affordable should it be as good as BB says it is.

Aerie Shimmer Fragrance
Cute packaging but I'm allergic to perfume, will Birchbox ever care?

Beauty Extra: Deborah Lippmann Stripper to go
Lavender scented nail polish remover does sound nice, but I really have no use for this. Oh well.

Overall a pretty decent box. I find it's always hard to judge these boxes without actually trying all the products. I've gotten full sized things that I wound up hating, and random samples that turned into must haves, so it's hard to say whether there's a hidden gem in here or a bunch of stuff I'll never use again.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2123614092705058069.post-39969195189646810612013-01-02T17:53:00.002-05:002013-01-02T17:54:11.070-05:00Essie Sleek Sticks - So HauteEssie has a new line of nail stickers out in tons of cool designs. I tried out this amazing red and gold pattern for Christmas.

Unlike Sally Hansen Salon Effects, these do not dry out so you can save your leftovers for touchups or a second mani. While Salon Effects are made with real polish, these are more like thick stickers for your nails. The positive is that they come in some really cool textured designs, plus removal is a breeze (just peel them off). Application is also a bit easier since you just peel them off the cardboard, stick them to your nails, and file away the excess. The major negative is that they can start peeling up off your nails after a day or two (see tipwear on my pointer finger - that happened within 24 hours of application).

These created an absolutely gorgeous mani for Christmas. Doesn't get more festive than this!
Here is Nothing Else Metals, a super shiny silvery lilac. I love this color! Proof? After wearing it for 10 days I took it off and then redid my nails with it. I always knew my BB luck could not last forever, and this month the jig was up as I received what the girls over at makeuptalk have dubbed the "punishment box."

Let's take a look:

Khiel's Creme De Corps
Decent size sample of luxury ($70!) body cream. Great for travel

Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer - Light Pink
Deluxe sample of a highlighter from a popular brand.

MCMC Perfume in Phoenix
Vanilla, honeysuckle, peach. I'm allergic to perfume, but even I loved how this stuff smelled. It manages to be both gentle and rich, lacking the chemical odor of most perfumes (but still giving me a headache after squirting it on). I am gifting this sample to my mom, who will most likely be buying a full size bottle.

Masqueology Eye Mask
This one mask retails for $8. I'm very interested in giving it a try, but cannot see myself ever spending money on these (unless it truly works miracles in which case I might stock up for special occasions).

Masqueology Masque Cleanse (face wash)
I totally fell for the marketing on this package and was excited to experience the "bubble technology" it advertised until I realized that it simply made bubbles on my face much like every other soap that ever existed. Next.

Masqueology 7D Moisture Cream
I have not used this yet but I do not expect much. These packets were lifestyle extras, so I can't really hate too hard. Still wish I got a Chuao bar.

In the end, while this box was crappy compared to every other box this month, it really was *that* terrible. If this is the worst Birchbox ever puts out, I dare say they are on their way up. Yes, the value is low compared to those who scored $24 mascaras and $18 lipglosses, but these boxes were never about value to me - they are about trying new things. Given that criteria this box still managed to succeed.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2123614092705058069.post-88085302822523991822012-11-10T13:00:00.000-05:002012-11-10T13:00:02.927-05:00Essie - No More FilmThis color really changes depending on the lighting. While coming across as black or navy indoors, bright sunlight brings out deep violet tones. Very unique and pretty. The formula is excellent, can probably get away with one coat if you are careful.

The formula is smooth and you get great coverage in two coats. I love this on my toes, though it definitely makes an appearance on my nails from time to time.
Was really delighted to see this in my box. I have Orly Rage, which is a close dupe, but the finish on the Color Club is more smooth and reflective.

This is a great neutral color that has some pop to it. Metallics may not be for everyone, but if you are a fan this is a great one to own.
While the internet rages over dime size lip gel and oodles of foil packets, I score a full sized Essie and lip balm. Even the Luna Bar can't bring this box down.

Essie - No More Film
Love this color ! Totally lucked out with a very wearable Essie that I do not already own. It can come across as black, but really is an awesome navy blue/deep violet depending on how much light is hitting it.

Sprout Lip Balm - Cocoa
I've been using this product for a month and I'm obsessed with it. The smell is odd, but once you put it on it basically smells like a mounds bar. The condition of my lips have drastically improved since I've gotten this - probably because I've been applying it pretty religiously since I broke the seal. It is not at all waxy and manages to hydrate without being sticky. Will definitely be buying more once I run out.

Luna Bar
It's a Luna bar! I'm glad to finally get this over with, as everyone with a BB sub gets one sooner or later.

Joanna Vargas Face Serum
This is a really nice serum, and despite the small size I've been able to use it nightly for almost 2 weeks. Have not really seen any major impact from it, so I'm not about to splurge $88 on the full size. That said, it does smell really delicious and soaks into my skin very nicely.

Marie Veronique Body Oil
While this smells delicious and is a decent size, I feel like I have no real use for it and will probably try to trade it for something more practical - like another lip balm!
I own a few creamy blues, but this is definitely a new favorite. The formula is amazing, practically a one coater that dries to a nice shiny finish. I'm in love.
My favorite day. I totally spoiled myself this month because shipping took forever and I couldn't resist clicking on my page to see what I was getting. Still fun to open a package of goodies and play around with new things.

Color Club Polish - Put a Pin in It
I'm totally obsessed with this entire mini collection, and seeing as I already grabbed Insta This and Tweet Me at the SampleStop, getting this color was a total score. Swatches coming soon.

Lace Twistband
The color and design is so much cuter than regular twistbands (which I was not a fan of). Cute!

LA Fresh Instant Body Soother
I thought these were post gym type body wipes, but the package tells you to wipe them on your body to "soothe away stress and fatigue." Apparently there is some aromatherapy going on here. I'm interested.

Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel
This is a really large sample! I love all natural products and people rave about Boscia so I'm looking forward to using this. I'm building a high end travel kit, this is a perfect addition.

Dr. Jart+ BB Cream
My first BB cream!! This sample is tiny, but I've been itching to try a good BB cream. Out of all the products this month, this is one I really wanted.

Lifestyle Extra: Brush Guards
These brush covers protect your makeup brushes and help them dry back to their natural shape after washing. Awesome, but I'm totally trading this for the LiQWD Volume Catalyst hair spray cause I like big hair more than I like taking proper care of my makeup tools.

All in all I love my box ! Since there was no perfume, this is the first time I would actually use each and every thing in here. Birchbox has had a few ups and downs, but my box luck continues and I remain a major fan.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2123614092705058069.post-1764341345459671262012-09-10T12:49:00.001-04:002012-09-10T12:50:06.712-04:00China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy I know fall is quickly approaching, but I cannot return to this blog without paying homage to the neon that was on my fingers and toes for the majority of the summer.

Flip Flop fantasy is obnoxiously bright. The first time I put it on I hated it because I simply was not used to my fingertips glowing. After the initial shock wore off, I found I kept returning to this polish because of how loud it is.

The intensity of this color drives cameras insane, but I managed to capture it's essence in this instagram collage. The formula is not wonderful, but most neons aren't. It also chips pretty easily. All is forgiven though, since there seems to be no other quite like it.
I'd love to promise that I'm back for good, but by now you all know how fickle I am.

So what has motivated me to post? Birchbox and Color Club's exclusive Social Media collection! I was lucky enough to score 2 of these at Birchbox's pop up sample stop for fashion week.

Tweet me is a creamy chartreuse, a color I hated when OPI did it with their Shrek collection but absolutely love now. It's one of those things that's so ugly it's pretty.

The polish comes across extra yellow in these photos, but there is definitely a dose of green in it. The formula was a bit awful, as any formula with yellow tends to be, but after three coats it evens out pretty nicely.

These were really easy to apply and the staying power is awesome. I have a cut on my finger and applied a band aid a little too soon after applying these strips. The strip pulled up when I pulled the band aid off, but I simply pressed it back down and it has survived every band aid since :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2123614092705058069.post-57711160755525190182012-06-20T15:53:00.001-04:002012-06-20T18:20:38.652-04:00Kara's Way Box - June 2012Kara's Way is yet another subscription beauty box on the market, though fairly new to the game. Last month's inaugural box was chock full of amazing natural products so I had to give this a try.

Packaging: The products are wrapped nicely in tissue paper but the packaging is not nearly as elaborate as Birchbox. There is no notecard telling you what you are getting, nor is there an actual box inside the main packaging that you can reuse for other purposes (makes sense since this company is all about being green). This is all fine though cause what really matters is the products, and I have to say I will definitely be using everything in my box.

When I first opened the box I was a little sad there were only 5 products (they promise 5-10), but then realized they are almost all full size and I was just being a selfish asshole. Kara's Way just emailed me links with retail prices of these products and my box comes in at over $50, further cementing my status as a spoiled brat.

It also came with this cute little tag that apparently has seeds in it since it urges you to bury it and watch flowers grow. Adorable!

For $15 a month this subscription cost more than Birchbox, but the products are definitely of greater value. There is no point system to earn credits towards products, which is a little sad but not a deal breaker. Unlike Birchbox, Kara's Way boxes seem extremely uniform with everyone getting almost all the same stuff. Hopefully they can continue offering great boxes to everyone as they grow.

I wish I could keep both subscriptions, but $25 a month for random things is just more than my wallet can handle right now (for $25 a month I can buy things I actually want from Sephora every month instead of playing the beauty box lotto). Since I already committed to Birchbox with a yearly subscription I am sadly canceling Kara's Way for now, but this is definitely a company to keep an eye on.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2123614092705058069.post-12077398081894007412012-06-08T16:00:00.001-04:002012-06-09T12:32:28.209-04:00June Birchbox 2012For some reason Birchbox has stopped sending me shipment notifications, so it's always a pleasant surprise to see that hot pink package in the mail.

Of course I watched the sneak peak video and fell in love with the reusable Tili bags, and of course I didn't get them, but overall this box really aint so bad :)

This boxes theme was Jet Set and most of my products seem to revolve around fake tanning or preventing a tan, so I guess that works. Here goes:

beautyblender blendercleanser - Tiny travel sized make up brush cleaner

Comodynes Sel-Tanning Intensive - these are supposed to be great but I'm really not brave enough for them.

COOLA Cucumber Matte Mineral Face SPF 30 - still searching for the perfect sunscreen for my face, and this one gets bonus points for being all natural. Yay!

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint - I'm almost on my last tube of Perricone's discontinued tinted moisturizer, so it's nice to try new products. Has SPF 15 in it which is a big plus.

theBALM Staniac in Beauty Queen - Never will I ever complain about a hot pink lip stain. Very tiny, but it seems that a little goes a long way.

Lifestyle Extra
Retro Modcloth Headband (product page here) - a $14 value but this is so not my thing. Will try to trade for Tili bags or give to a friend.

Birchbox Man Extra
John Varvatos Cologne - A LOT of people were pissed off when this extra was featured in the sneak peak video. I agree that swapping out a beauty sample for a man sample is just not good business, but it seems that this is an EXTRA extra and doesn't take the place of anything at all.

All and all a decent box. The samples are tiny, but I can't be greedy and expect full size awesomeness week after week. Also seems like I'll rack up 70 beauty points this week ($7 value) which is pretty dang sweet.

While the laptop skins are nice, I think they really suit the Kindle's form factor. I scored this skin for $12 shipped with a 25% off Mother's Day Promo.

Application was pretty easy. The skin is made of a thin matte vinyl (you can chose shiny or matte) that was simple to work with. The decal lined up really well, I only have one tiny bubble/crease on the back that is barely noticeable.

I adore how this looks on the back of my Kindle. I have to get used to it on the front. The vinyl should leave no sticky residue so I can always peel off the front stickers if need be.
With a promo bottle photo like this, is it any wonder you went straight to the top of many polish fanatics wish lists?

Unfortunately I think that magic is sort of lost on the nail. A foil version of the ever so popular tiffany blue is a great idea, but in the end I simply prefer a creme. I wish Zoya did more of a glitter foil, like their sunshine or sparkle collections. If foils are your thing, this is probably a must have. Maybe I'll like it better with a tan, but I can't really see myself reaching for Zuza over it's creme counterpart (Wednesday).
It seemed close to China Glaze's For Audrey, but my bottle of For Audrey is seriously hurting so I was ok with having a close dupe. The color does not disappoint. It might actually be a tad been greener than For Audrey, which I love since my skin always seems to bring out the blue in these colors.

I got a lot of compliments wearing this. My mom even said it was one of her favorite colors on me. She also noted that it didn't look like anything I've ever worn before. My polish collection quietly mocked her.
The idea was great but it seemed like boxes with great items (full size Stila eyeliner??) were hard to come by. I can't really complain since my box really wasn't that bad. Also my last 2 boxes were amazing so asking for more expensive full size products at this point is just being greedy.

My theme was Hamptons Beach Party. Other than the really fun coral nail polish, I'm not quite sure how any of my items have to do with the beach. Unlike the Teen Vogue box, these Gossip Girl boxes just seemed forced and really not related to GG at all. Also the extra in this months boxes was a single piece of XOXO stationary. It's actually really cute, but ONE piece? It's a piece of paper and an envelope, they could have splurged and given us a few of these.

On to my box contents!

Color Club - Clambake Coral

I couldn't find this color online, so it seems to either be renamed or an exclusive to this box. It's a mini size which is a little sad, but it's a really fun color. A somewhat muted yet very vibrant orange coral. Goes on a bit sheer and there was slight visible nail line with 2 coats. I found it impossible to capture this color accurately on my nail, but it's pretty close to how it looks in the bottle.

Ojon Restorative Conditioner

A decent size sample of a conditioning hair treatment. Have not used it yet, but I like to use these treatments in my hair now and then so this is a keeper.

Kiehl's Abyssine Cream +

A moisturizing face cream that is supposed to have anti aging properties. I used it twice and it felt nice but went back to my usual cream because I like it better. I don't mind these skin care samples though since I am completely sold on the Olie Biologique oil I got in my last box and will be purchasing a full size as soon as I run out.

Perfume Sample

Blah blah perfume blah. Can't use, will be giving away (am allergic).

Notecards

Ahem NOTECARD singular. Like I said, would have been nice to have more than one. I do write letters to friends and this is cute, not sure if I'd be splurging $10 for 12 though.

So there you have it ! I wish that this box was a LITTLE more geared towards Gossip Girl. The XOXO notecard is the only thing that really relates to the show. While the theme was fun, it seemed forced, which was disappointing considering how hyped up it was. I still love my birchbox though and look forward to next month's surprises :)
Essie's Cocktail Bling is a muted gray/blue, and while it might not be as light as Kristen it certainly worked out well.

I've learned the thing about flakies is that they never ever look nearly as good in photos as they do in real life. Pictures make them look more odd and speckled whereas in person, flake polishes give off an awesome iridescent glow. They can look speckled in the shade with absolutely no light hitting them, but the tiniest bit of light makes them sparkle and shine and gives whatever color you layer it over a real boost.

I'm definitely a fan of layering flakies over base colors with similar tones. I really enjoyed the contrast of Maisie's blue/green flecks over the muted gray of cocktail bling. It was really hard capturing just how great this was, so you just have to trust me that this looked even better in person:

And here is Cocktail Bling alone. An awesome muted gray/blue that is just as lovely without a sparkly top coat.
